About the project

I co-founded Nibblit and served as Head of Product. We built the app around a simple idea: finding somewhere to eat should start with what works for you. People with dietary requirements often know the restaurants and meals that suit them, but someone with the same needs visiting their city might not. Nibblit helped that knowledge travel.

The app matched restaurant and menu recommendations to people’s preferences and dietary needs. When someone travelled to a new city, it recognised their location and suggested places nearby. Food photography, ratings, location details and dietary information helped people explore what was on offer before deciding where to go.

We also built a social side to discovery. People could follow others with similar dietary requirements and find restaurants and meals through their recommendations. Hundreds of restaurants took part in our verified programme, where we checked individual meals against specified dietary requirements.

The project ran from 2018 to 2020, with its launch celebrated in Melbourne in February 2019. Nibblit reached No. 22 in the iOS App Store’s Food & Drink category. In 2019, my co-founder and I were invited to Boston to pitch at MassChallenge, an incredible experience for us both.

COVID brought significant hardship to the restaurants we worked with, and they began cancelling their spend with us. As lockdowns in our home city of Melbourne continued, we decided to close Nibblit.
